China Syndrome
Chen Wei* says;
Dictatorship will fail,
democracy will prevail.
(((pilchard)))
eying my reflected distrust,
mushroom cloud aftermath
port-wine stain formation;
yet another indication.
I’ve been bagging up cats for the drowning -
don’t fret, I’m sporting rubbers (gloves).
The Man from UNKLE, on auntie’s radio,
warned me about it.
Toxoplasmosis;
a sexually active virus
making biochemical love
in the gut of left wing felines
Bourgeoning;
the cat dumps this parasitic
multi orgasmic micro-organism
from its Red asshole.
A dumb fuck consumerist
mouse hoovers it up, without blinking
the bug alters the mind of the mouse
it no longer fears cats
and presents itself;
a kamikaze host.
The same cat
then kills the mouse
and greedily gobbles up
the booby trapped Mickey,
the Trojan horse blossoms;
domestic pest and pet rotation
Import – export.
the man on the radio said
TOXO can cause paranoid
schizophrenia in humans
we interrupt this broadcast…China… Building… Budding… Conspiracy
(Whispering to the mirror)
It’s a communist virus –
the Chinese meat machine
has engineered
this inland infection.
Spy catcher Rat catcher Cat Butcher
I began this covert cull with my own cat…
I may have been too late…?

yes you may have been...that first pic has always been so disturning too me...i think TOOL used it for and album cover...or was it RAGE...anyway...scary thing..and you know one day when they cash in all their debt they will own us...gotta watch those writers you know...they will cause lots of trouble...
ReplyDeleteStrong write, love the frenetic pace at points, the cat-mouse analogy was great. Funny aside, I was tossing about various uses of the Trojan Horse in my mind, it's a great illustration of the downside to arrogance. Always loved those tales. Great way to use it here. For me, the first stanza, with the mushroom cloud aftermath and port wine stain formation set the piece up perfectly. Great job as usual Arron. Thanks
ReplyDeletedang arron...fine write...you know we had our own communistic powers here with the GDR - and it scared the hell out of me what they did to people who wouldn't conform to the system..i hope that Chen Wei is right and communism will die one day..
ReplyDeleteFirst, let me say using the goose-stepping girlies in red shorts for your wallpaper was a stroke of genius--and your poem-log metaphor one of the most scalding, consistent and well-executed--consistently scalding cats, executing spy catchers, rat masters and all. It's ironic to me that whenever there's a People's Revolution, people are the first thing to be parasitized--meet the New Boss... Sucks about Chen Wei--someone needs to hack down their internet or something. Fine writing in hot blood dipped in a stiffened tapeworm, my friend.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant, biting, indelibly witty. xxxj
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy stepping into your poetic world for you make my mind expand, think and ponder... this is another one of those pieces.. Communism is nothing more than a moral Great Wall..
ReplyDelete"the man on the radio said

schizophrenia in humans"
Oh my gosh, I am rolling with laughter, Arron.
You grab me intensely every time. :)

So true and vivid too, you just blared away with your China display. Look at all of those marchers now on your blog, all looking as if they march straight through any fog, bog or log. I hate to see what happens if they do cash in on the U.S. though, many would surely crow.
ReplyDeleteexcellent poem, great energy. we humans sure love pushing our extremes (i wonder which we love more, the ideologies, or the immence drama it provides us). i used to watch children play cowboys and indians, cops and robbers, etc, for them it's all about action and adventure, i wonder how much of that still lives in us... not sure what i'm saying, just a thought that occured to we while reading this. the extremes really freak me out. it would be great if we could start evolving, without all the revolving. again, great poem, really enjoyed
ReplyDeleteArron, I hope for the sake of Chen Wei that there's a Chinese Spring to shorten his time inside. This is a very intelligent metaphor. This had the feel of something written all at once, in great heat. I admire poetry that really stands for something off the page, and this is one of those. It should qualify for your "keeper" file.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year.
'booby trapped Mickey'... yep..and they even have the wind-up marching girls brigade to go with it...
ReplyDeleteThis is a finely wrought slice of satire Arron.. clever and moving.. and a welcome reminder of the fortune we have in being able to write without fear of being incarcerated for 9 years, unlike Chen Wei.
An important one this.. thank you
powerfully brought this issue Arron, and through this crusty surface of poetry that leaves a deserved sting on the psyche. I did not know about this writer's sentence, thank your for making me aware. My best to you and thank you for your kind comments on my words, always appreciate it! ~ Rose
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine what life is like living under such control. It's sad for Chen Wei. As always, your writing sends the reader on quite a trip. And, what a background image. Crazy.
ReplyDeletePowerful and heartfelt my friend. I am with you on this.
ReplyDeleteWish you have a great new year ahead.... May you have peace, love and prosperity ...

ah I do love your writes - they're mentally brilliant and undeniably apt - so many brilliant lines in this one of course - loved "I’ve been bagging up cats for the drowning -
ReplyDeletedon’t fret, I’m sporting rubbers (gloves)." - and "mushroom cloud aftermath
", "it no longer fears cats
and presents itself;
a kamikaze host." - ah hell I love the whole damn thing!
I do get so excited when my email tells me you've posted something, Arron : ) The way you take on something so completely is great.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that we are buying, eating, poisoning...Kamikaze host..is one of my soapboxes... we are self-distructing. The cat metaphore is great and illustrates your points so well, as least as I understand them.
TOXO, import/export, consumerism , etc. really thoughtful commentary with tons of subtle reference and I did know about Chen Wei, so thank you for that. The echoed voice in the video made me think of people being prompted on what to say...happens there and here, too.
Much happiness to you in 2012 and thank you for your support since I started writing : )
